How does the unit work?
The unit is comprised of two basic sections: the heater base, which contains the holding basin, and the fountain unit, which contains the “yager” (similar to a corkscrew ). The heater is turned on to pre-heat approximately 15 minutes before fountain use, and pre-melted chocolate is poured into the basin. The yager is turned on and the chocolate will begin to flow from the fountain. Theoretically the unit would be able to melt the solid chocolate since it is a tempering unit, but would take a long time for the chocolate flow to begin. For operating and power use efficiency we therefore recommend pre-melting the chocolate.

Is there a time limit for use of the fountain?
There is no time limit for use.

How many people does each size fountain serve?
Our package includes 7kg of chocolate and along with your accompaniments is normally adequate to accommodate up to 150 guests. However keep in mind that the chocolate fountain will serve an unlimited number of people by adding additional chocolate.

What kind of chocolate can be used in the fountain?
We use Belgium Chocolate. We recommend a type of chocolate called “couverture” (a French word for ‘coating’), which is a higher quality chocolate that contains 32-39% cocoa butter. In addition to creating a better ‘flow’, it assures a better taste and a silkier appearance.

What Dipping items can be used?
Basically, anything edible that goes with chocolate can be used, and is only restricted by your imagination. A few examples: strawberries, mint sticks, marshmallows, cream eclairs, pineapple, honey melon, biscotti, cookies, etc.

Can the unit be used outside?
In certain instances the fountains will not function correctly outside. In order for the chocolate to flow smoothly over the tiers it must maintain a certain temperature. In areas where there are cool breezes or the temperature is somewhat cold, the fountain functionality may be affected. A good rule of thumb is this: “If the temperature is low enough for guests to wear jackets or coats, it’s not a good idea to use the fountain outside.” Another deterrent to outside fountain use may be the presence of chocolate craving insects - which dramatically decrease guest satisfaction! Wind and even slight breezes can also cause disasters when the chocolate fountain is run outside. Because of the thin, flowing curtain of chocolate, even a small breeze can cover more than just the strawberries in chocolate!

What area do you service?
Around Pretoria and Johannesburg. An additional travel fee will be charged for travel costs if your event is held outside of these areas.
